Downtown Chicago PR agency seeks PR Account Coordinator to add to its dynamic team of high performers for top quality consumer, health and health and fitness clients. Candidate is a new grad or one year out of school with strong PR experience.

Candidate is ready to move up in job responsibilities and feel challenged. Agency is known for its abilities to meet and excel client needs, create breakthrough campaigns that impact on the bottom line and work with senior level clients.

Background: Must Have:

Up to 1 year’s experience in PR agency or corporate communications department. Will also consider new grads with strong PR internship experiences.

  • Bachelor’s degree in PR, related field or in liberal arts
  • Experience working with or passion for wellness & nutrition brands is a plus!
  • Superior oral/written communication skills; able to proofread & edit
  • Entry level understanding of media writing & media relations (story pitching, writing releases & bylines, ability to find creative angles)
  • Maintains professional, client-ready demeanor & presence; keeps high standard of etiquette in all communications & interactions
  • Understands & has affinity for digital tools & platforms (incl. social media)
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite & Cision (or related PR software)
  • Able to travel as necessary on client/new business needs (requirements vary)

Responsibilities:

  • Be part of a 4-5 person team
  • 20% write: media briefs, press releases, client communications, reports
  • 40% pitch to media, build relationships with press, create targeted media campaigns
  • 25% collaborate, brainstorm & participate in meetings with team and clients
  • 15% social media
  • Serve as liaison between clients, vendors, and agency departments to coordinate efficient and timely processing of materials
  • Schedule and coordinate client meetings; keep participants advised of changes; set up/break down as needed
  • Proofread internal and client documents for accuracy and quality
  • Interact with client as deemed necessary by account team leader
  • Conduct media monitoring and analysis; develop and maintain media/press contact lists and databases
  • Research and maintain speaking/editorial opportunities lists and calendars
  • Scan daily, weekly, monthly and online publications to identify client-relevant media coverage, including competitive market and industry information
  • Flag assigned media (traditional & online) each morning; includes reading assigned publications to locate & clip articles that mention or would be of interest to client(s)
  • Prepare daily and monthly media reports for distribution to client(s)
  • Begin to build relationships with journalists & influencers; secure pro-active client publicity
  • Draft press releases, pitch letters, etc.; conduct background research and prepare briefing memos/documents for public relations planning
  • Participate in logistical operations of special events planning and coordination
  • Cross-reference, approve, and forward invoices to Accounting Department
  • Coordinate & distribute press materials, press kits & mass mailings for account teams
  • Continually update manager on progress of activities
  • Perform ad hoc account management tasks as assigned
  • Capture time daily and enter it into the system weekly
