Date:  Thursday, April 23rd
Time:  3:00 pm EST (12:00 pm PST, 1:00 pm MST, 2:00 pm CST)
Description:
We all talk to ourselves and that’s okay; but what are you saying?  Too often our self-talk is more prevalent when we don’t like what we’ve just said or done!  The reality is whether you think you CAN do something or think you CAN’T – you’re 100% right!  That’s why your self-talk will either help or hinder your job search, the choice is yours!  During this session, we will discuss the following four areas:
  1. Your self-esteem cycle
  2. A self-talk assessment
  3. Self-esteem evaluation
  4. How to improve your self-talk and your RESULTS!
Bottom line:  When you talk to yourself – say NICE things.  This session will help you improve the results you will enjoy in your job search.

2. STEM Circuits: Focus on mental wellness during COVID-19 by Northwestern University. Free event

COVID-19 has added a myriad of new challenges to our daily lives. Many of us have been coping for over a month with worry over at-risk loved ones, the confinement and isolation of sheltering-in-place, and/or the stress of continuing to perform as essential workers. No matter your personal situation, we are part of a world in crisis, which is having a major impact on our mental health. To face these issues head on, we hope that you will join us for an extremely timely webinar facilitated by National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Chicago.

3. 60-min NSENG webinar: “How to Overcome Being Viewed as Over-Qualified” featuring nationally-known speaker ABBY KOHUT.

One of the greatest challenges that job seekers over 45 face is that employers often perceive them as over-qualified (or too old). Older job seekers are often competing against less experienced candidates that are 10-15 years younger and many employers possess stereotypes that mature workers have less energy, are too expensive, and haven’t kept current with technology.

During this webinar, ABBY (“Absolutely Abby”) KOHUT will provide you with ways to overcome the over-qualified obstacles. Some of her topics include:
– How to answer the over-qualified question
– The REAL reason why recruiters and hiring managers are concerned about hiring over-qualified applicants
– How to change your cover letter and resume if you believe you are over-qualified
– 7 ways to explain on an interview why being over-qualified is an advantage
– How to handle the “age factor”
Date: April 27, 2020
Time: 7:00 – 8:00 PM (CST)
