05-18-20: Resiliency, Resources & Job Openings

With the prospect of reaching some kind of normalcy in today’s unprecedented times, we look for glimmers of hope. We reach out to each other to build community, provide support and give a hand to those in need. Let’s look within ourselves to find the capacity to recover, toughen up and face the new normal.
We all are resilient. My friend, Melissa Wenig took this photo of a brand new Monarch butterfly sipping its first taste of nectar. During this pandemic, Melissa may have found a small way to help protect the disappearance of this beautiful species.
Mutual support is friendship in action! LH&A is here for you. We have a very eager client looking to fill 4 openings. Details are below. Let’s get out of our chrysalis, stretch out our wings and fly.

1. 60-min NSENG webinar: “How to Develop & Deliver a Dynamic Elevator Pitch” by WLS-radio talk show host, CATHERINE JOHNS. TONIGHT!

All job seekers need to be able to deliver a quick and engaging introduction of themselves that lets people know who you are and what value you have to offer a prospective employer. A dynamic elevator pitch goes a long toward creating a great first impression. And yet, one of the most difficult questions that individuals struggle with is “What do you do?” Unfortunately, many people respond in a way that leaves the listener unexcited or unclear. And that short 60-second pitch may be the one key moment you get to create interest and an opportunity to become memorable.

During this webinar, former WLS-radio talk show host, CATHERINE JOHNS, will talk about “How to Develop & Deliver a Dynamic Elevator Pitch”. You will learn how to create excitement  and credibility so people will want to know you better, will want to refer you and will want to hire you. Here are some of the topics that Catherine will discuss:
  • A new way of thinking about the “old” elevator speech
  • Three things your introduction must include to capture interest
  • Tips for structuring your introduction to make it more intriguing
  • How to use powerful language that draws people in
  • The secret to having more confidence when you talk about your work experience

It’s even more frustrating not to receive feedback after you’ve had a telephone or face-to-face interview.  During this session, we will review the following:
  • How to make your resume/CV stand out
  • How to receive a return call when you leave a voicemail
  • How to receive a response to your email

4. C2ST event on Science From the Frontlines: Gender Disparity in COVID-19 Cases

Gender differences in COVID-19 disease severity have been described in multiple countries, with reports indicating that men often experience more severe disease and greater mortality. Dr. Kovats will summarize available information about the observed gender differences in COVID-19 severity and outline possible social and biological explanations for this gender disparity. One hypothesis is that men and women differ in aspects of the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection. After a brief primer on the innate and adaptive arms of the immune system, Dr. Kovats will review the evidence for sex differences in immune function in humans and animal models and describe how androgens and estrogens modulate immunity. She will explain how COVID-19 patient blood samples might be used to understand the gender differences in immune responses at the molecular and cellular level.
